Ellis Brigham is the venue for our second date on this year’s Adventure Activists Tour. Join us as we continue to inspire change through adventure, exploring the issue of how best to protect our oceans.
We’ll be joined by ocean advocate, explorer and founder of Paddle Against Plastic Cal Major who paddleboarded from Land’s End to John o’Groats and Chris Hines who has been working and campaigning for the environment for 30 years and revels in inspiring positive change. These two inspirational speakers will share fascinating tales from their adventures and share ideas on you on how to get involved in protecting our oceans and waterways.
Alongside these brilliant speakers we’re delighted to be screening inspirational Patagonia film Los Plastico – the story of four surfers who travel to a remote island in search of the world’s largest waves and discover how local residents are protecting their wild waters and fish.
Chris was a Co-founder of Surfers Against Sewage and Sustainability Director at the Eden Project for 5 years. He has given evidence to the UK parliament, the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, the European Commission, briefed the President of the European Parliament, been a special advisor to the Minister for the Environment and appeared on a wide range of media from BBC World Service and Panorama to CNN.
In 2008 he was awarded an MBE for “services to the environment”.
Has given presentations to a wide range of groups and organisations from BMW Guggenheim Future Lab to the Dutch Tax Office, Bombay Sapphire, Lonely Planet, the National Grid and the Global Surf Cities Conference and International Schools in the Hague and Geneva.
He now aims to deliver positive change by working with clients with a shared vision, including sitting on the BBC’s Sustainability Advisory Group.
Oh and he still gets plenty of surfing in!
Cal Major is an ocean advocate, explorer and founder of Paddle Against Plastic, raising awareness of the problem of plastic pollution in the ocean, and campaigning for reducing plastic use at source.
Cal’s expeditions aim to inspire reconnection to nature and an appreciation of the importance of the oceans, resulting in a commitment to protect them.
